New Hampshire’s Superintendent of Corrections Wants Marijuana Legalized

New Hampshire Marihuana

In a letter written by the secretary of corrections in New Hampshire, Richard Van Wickler shows his support for legal marijuana. He is in full agreement with Bill Walker on the subject. The re-legalization of marijuana is taking too long.

Wickler wrote that the illicit marijuana market is damaging, according to Concord Monitor. In reference to alcohol prohibition, Wickler believes that the difference between its prohibition and marijuana’s prohibition is that alcohol prohibition ended rather quickly.

The point is made that the illegal status of marijuana and the crime related to its use is caused strictly by prohibition, not the plant itself. Street dealers are controlling the market right now. As Wickler phrases it, it “puts the mice in charge of the cheese”.

Decriminalization doesn’t do enough; it doesn’t go far enough according to the secretary of corrections. He believes that ending federal prohibition will help stop the black market from flourishing and push cartels out.

He said, “I’m not aware of any cartels selling beer.”
