New Hampshire House Advances Recreational Marijuana Legalization Bill

Medical Cannabis

The New Hampshire House has advanced a marijuana legalization bill. The vote was 209-147. If passed and signed into law, adults ages 21 and older would be permitted to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana.

Representative Stephen Pearson believes that legalization would be detrimental for the state given its current opioid epidemic, New Hampshire Public Radio says. Some voiced concerns regarding health concerns surrounding marijuana use. Others are still holding onto the “gateway drug” theory.

Representative Carol McGuire said that marijuana users are still going to use the plant whether it’s legalized or not.

McGuire said, “We’re not really here to decide if marijuana is good or bad. We’re here to decide whether it should be legal or illegal.”

It isn’t known when the bill will be heard again for further advancement.
