New Hampshire Releases Draft of Recreational Marijuana Bill

Cannabis

Representative Renny Cushing has released a draft of a recreational marijuana legalization bill. If passed, adults ages 21 and older would be allowed to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana. New Hampshire would have a Cannabis Control Commission similar to Massachusetts.

The commission would be responsible for implementing regulations and licensing processes, WMUR 9 News says.  The draft says that some of the taxes would help substance abuse prevention and treatment programs. As long as a city or town allows a marijuana business, they would also receive some of that tax revenue.

Tax revenue from marijuana sales would also aid in funding impaired driving enforcement.

Governor Sununu is heavily opposed to marijuana legalization, but lawmakers say that they believe the bill will pass regardless.
