New Hampshire’s Democratic Chair Backs Marijuana Legalization

The New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair, Ray Buckley, has announced his support of marijuana legalization. Buckley is also willing to sign on as a co-sponsor to change the party platform’s change on June 23. Representative Renny Cushing has led the efforts to amend the party’s platform.

The platform change proposal is scheduled for release on June 11, NHPR reports. Prior to the support of Buckley and two other gubernatorial candidates, Cushing said the platform change was a “long shot.” New Hampshire is currently studying marijuana legalization with the commission’s recommendations due by November 1.

Buckley said, “With marijuana having been legalized in every bordering state, it makes sense for New Hampshire, the Live Free or Die state, to extend this right to our citizens as well.”

Marijuana law reform is gradually changing in New Hampshire as decriminalization of three-quarters of an ounce took place in 2017.
