Senator’s Bill Would Legalize Marijuana in New Hampshire

A bill to legalize recreational marijuana is in the process of being introduced to the New Hampshire Senate. This is a first in the state. Senator Jeff Woodburn introduced the bill.

Senator Woodburn faces opposition from the governor and law enforcement, according to WMUR 9 News. Those supporting recreational marijuana say that the plant isn’t part of the state’s addiction crisis.

Matt Simon from Marijuana Policy Project said, “There’s a section on the gateway theory, and they say overall research does not support a direct casual relationship between regular marijuana use and other illicit drugs. That’s from the Drug Enforcement Administration.”

New Hampshire is also working to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana. It’s slowly making its way through the state’s Legislature. Updates on its progress should come in the near future.
