Denver Passes New (and Permanent) Marijuana Lounges Law

Marijuana Lounges

The Denver City Council has voted 10 to 1 to make permanent the law that allows for the licensing of marijuana social use establishments. In 2016, Denver voters passed an initiative permitting these establishments, but the law was set to expire in 2020.

So far, city regulators have only granted two permits for businesses to allow social use, the Denver Post reported.

City council members believe businesses didn’t apply for social use permits because they assumed the law wouldn’t be renewed after 2020. But, now that the law has been made permanent, it’s expected that numerous businesses will apply for permits.
