Two New Hampshire GOP Candidates for Governor Support Medical Marijuana

Marijuana New Hampshire

New Hampshire is considering decriminalizing marijuana. But the GOP governor candidates are putting a few wrinkles in the progress as the party is split. Recent polls show that 60-percent of New Hampshire residents favor marijuana decriminalization.

Two representatives, Councilor Chris Sununu and Representative Frank Edelblut, spoke of support for decriminalization of marijuana, according to Concord Monitor. Both agree that decriminalization decreases state crime lab backlogs and the number of marijuana-related incarcerations.

Senator Jeanie Forrester and Mayor Ted Gatsas oppose decriminalization and argue that decriminalizing marijuana during an opioid crisis is inappropriate.

Past efforts to legalize or decriminalize marijuana in New Hampshire have failed.
